How the government can help?

My Frog Summary: To provide help to buy schemes for energy-producing assets.

This is a genuine plea to the UK government. We believe we can help the government inspire the public and the world in leading the way in “taking action” outlined in thier goals online here.

Here is a summary;

  1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere
  2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
  3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
  4. Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
  5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  6. Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all
  7. Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
  8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
  9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation
  10. Reduce inequality within and among countries
  11. Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
  12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
  13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
  14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
  15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
  16. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels
  17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development

We believe we can help the government achieve the sustainable parts of thier goals;

Solution;

Provide grants for high energy using spaces and places

The main problem;

Everyone knows sustainability is the best course of action. However, installing the technology and infrastructure is a huge risk for small business and not all have the cashflow to spare.

The payback time is multiple years for current safe and established technology.

If the government said, we will install sustainable tech for free, what would you say? YES right?

Solution:

  1. Provide grants for high energy using spaces and places.
  2. Provide “help to buy” schemes for industrial estates.

Why?

  1. To become the world leader in sustainable tech
  2. Create the silicon valley of sustainable tech
  3. Hit your net 0 goals…EARLY
  4. Increase profitability of UK business’s
  5. Save the consumer money on energy costs
  6. Create sustainably jobs and expertise

The above points will stimulate the economy, create growth and lower cost of living.

Example (A picture says 1000 words)

Before…

This scheme is designed to be as low risk as possible for the government and business’s and benefit the general population.

The numbers

Let’s say the government offered a help to buy a scheme for 5 business’s on an industrial estate.

  1. The total spend on energy generating units: £100,000
  2. Total spend on batteries: £50,000
  3. Total spend on installation: £50,000

Total: £200,000 to spend.

Let’s say the government require a 30% deposit to kick off the scheme. This would be £60,000. Divide by 5 business = £12,000 each.

The average business is paying around £4000,00 per year in energy costs.

So you are still asking this business to pay 3 years of  energy bills…UPFRONT!

However, the energy generated from spending £100,000 on sustainable energy units would be around 169,506Kw/h per year.

That’s a total of £32,000 worth of energy being produced per year.

Divide by 5 = 33,800kw/h or £6388.00 per year per business.

Each business only uses around 20,000kw/h per year. So each factory will be generating around 13,000kw/h per year to sell back to the grid.

This is around £2470 per year…so in 6 years, the companies would have paid for thier original investment of £12,000.00.

The business’s are now also “off grid” and will be saving £4000,00 per year in energy.

So in theory…the pay back on £12,000 investment would take 2 years!

This is when the re-payments to the government will begin until the factories now own the system backing back the 70% dept to the government.

Once it’s paid for, the business’s will own the surplus energy they produce.

The government could charge a small amount of interest on the loan to ensure the scheme is profitable for all.

Each business would need to pay back: £28,000 + interest.

The government could charge £1000,00 per month per business to receive it’s £140,000 back, so it would take 28 – 35 months (2.3 – 2.9 years) for the government to be completely paid back.

In total this process would take around 7 years…

The factories are now sustainable and saving around £4000,00 each per year and making £2470 per year each. So the gain could be £6470 per year… that the business can spend on growth.

This would also save: 65,158.54kg (65 tonnes) of carbon per year.
